COLLEGE FOOTBALL - WEEK 11

COLLEGE FOOTBALL - WEEK 11

First things first, how can there be a “Game of the Century” every season?  “But TOB, this year it is #1 vs #2!”  Right, and last year it was #1 vs #3, and Bama won 29-0 (and have won the past 8 meetings).  Either way, TOB is fired up about this game (among others this week), so let’s not waste time with jokes at the expense of the people in TOB’s life…j/k, that’s what half of you are here for!  Recently when watching the trailer for some disaster show on NBC (yes TOB is the only person in America that still watches commercials), probably involving the city of Chicago, buildings were shown rumbling and collapsing.  Seeing this, TOB’s special lady proclaimed, “Is this supposed to be some sort of earthshake or something?”  Yes, I believe it is.  Hopefully some of those people can find their escape goat in time to get out of there.  And now, a commercial that is currently getting under TOB’s skin:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhLcU7hp5pM

Psyche!  This commercial is hilarious!  Too bad TOB could only find it on YouTube through someone else’s phone…lame.

The TOB original segment, “Why are you still in my life?” is may have come to an end.  It turns out, Peyton and Shaq are the only two people who refuse to leave our sight even long after they’ve become completely irrelevant.  Kevin Hart is making quite a run with the advertisements, TOB is waiting for him to start pushing Autotrader.  “If anyone knows how to flip a car, it’s me, Kevin Hart.”  Zing!

Ho hum week last week, Georgia did what they were supposed to (Florida still looked tough), the PAC12 still thinks they have a chance to send someone to the final four, and the BIG10 is shaping up for an SEC-like last few weeks of their season.  Let’s take a quick, relatively uninformed look at the bigger games of the week:

·        4 Penn State at 17 Minnesota – Who knew Minnesota had climbed into the rankings?  They must have had a turd of a schedule to be undefeated and only ranked 17th.  TOB suspects they are complete frauds (shout out to Michael Wilbon) and will lose by double digits.  Penn State has already run through some tough competition, with their schedule culminating in two weeks at the horse shoe.  Fortunately they have a bye next week to prepare.

·        12 Baylor at TCU – For some reason Baylor is only a 2.5 point favorite here.  Another undefeated team that can’t seem to crack the top 10 (Florida has two losses, ranked 10).  Something isn’t right here, but it must be the year of the disgraced programs making a triumphant return.  Their big test will be next week at a cranky OU.

·        18 Iowa at 13 Wisconsin – Neither one of these teams is a threat for the final four, but the winner of this will likely get to go lose in the BIG10 Championship game…so there’s that.

·        2 LSU at 3 Bama – TOB mentioned before that this game is #1 vs #2.  That depends on which poll you are looking at.  TOB is all about ratings and drama, so for the purposes of this article it is a battle of the top 2 teams.  LSU is far more tested to this point, Bama has yet to play even a decent team.  Point spread has bounced around 7, finally settling on Bama -6.  It appears Tua will play, but how good is this guy really?  Aside from a UGE (that’s a Trump “huge”) half in a National Title Game (which is not to be discounted), he has been a good quarterback on a great team who also happens to be very injury prone.  TOB has no reason to believe he is much better than AJ McCarron.  Joe Burrow has made quite the name for himself, and likely jumped to a top 5 draft position.  TOB’s advice, trust the infrastructure, Bama wins by 10.  Late info coming in from TOB’s personal rival, 29% of Tua’s passes are screens, aka, extended handoffs.  Don’t get too far upfield LSU front 7!

Further bitching/facts about the cupcake season (which may just be the season):

·       Week 1 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  30.5

·       Week 2 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  42.5

·       Week 3 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  40

·       Week 4 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  38.5

·       Week 5 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  23.5

·       Week 6 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  29.5 – come on!

·       Week 7 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  15 – We finally had a top 5 loss!

·       Week 8 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  33 – It appears last week was the anomaly

·       Week 9 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  24 – Another top 5 goes down!

·       Week 10 average margin of victory for top 5 teams:  45 – A little unfair, only one team played, and their opponent was Wofford

·       Week 11 average point spread top 5 teams:  30 – TOB did not count LSU/Bama.  Only once in 11 weeks has the average margin of victory for top 5 teams been below 20.  Three times is has been below 30.  This season is more top heavy than Kate Upton.

“Countdown Until Urban Meyer Takes a D1 Job.”  Well, TOB’s dream of Urban going to Michigan are probably off the table.

·       UCLA – 5:1

·       Tennessee – 3:1

·       Florida State – 3:1 – New Addition – Rival to Florida and a new conference to infect!

·       USC:  5:1

·       Michigan State:  10:1

·       Remains analyst:  100:1
